What is PTE?

Pearson Test of English, a popular English proficiency test, is gaining popularity among nurses and healthcare professionals seeking career advancement and migration opportunities. At a recent RPS Migration seminar for nurses in Singapore, PTE Academic's Client Relations Manager for South East Asia, Gordon Vanstone, presented on the test's benefits. The Australian government's recognition of PTE Academic scores for work visa and migration applications, as well as recognition from healthcare professional bodies such as the Australian Nursing and Midwifery Accreditation Council and various State Boards of Nursing in the USA, has contributed to its success. PTE Academic aims to expand its recognition to more professional bodies in the future, facilitating career opportunities for working professionals.

Can PTE scores be used for nursing practices in the US?

There is no question about it - the answer is YES.

Nurses are highly sought after across the globe. In 2021, the United States is estimated to have three million international healthcare workers.

The United States expands the language prerequisites for international students aspiring to become licensed nurses.

An increasing number of State Boards of Nursing in the USA, such as those in Arizona, Arkansas, Florida, Iowa, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Nevada, New Hampshire, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, and Texas, are now recognizing the PTE exam for nursing licensure purposes.

The Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) has recently included PTE in the roster of authorized English Language testing services for foreign healthcare professionals.

To be eligible for employment as a registered nurse or other B.S. level healthcare workers, a minimum PTE score of 55 points is required, with no section scoring below 50.

HRSA has enhanced the esteemed nursing profession by introducing a new testing option for nurses seeking to advance their careers in the United States.

You have the opportunity to take the PTE test for nursing registration in the United States, as it's one of the seven identified non-physician medical professions, which also include registered nurses, licensed practical or vocational nurses, and clinical and medical technicians.
